How I would describe my personal interior style –
It is quite eclectic, I love the bohemian look and tend to mix this in with more modern pieces. Colour and pattern are what makes me tick and at the moment I am combining this with grey as a neutral base. I also love scouring vintage homeware shops and finding things which will work in a contemporary setting.
My favourite interior item?
That would have to be my new concrete ceiling light, it provides a great contrast to my soft furnishings which are more tactile and really creates a feature within the room.
My favourite art piece that I would love to have in my home? –
A painting by Erin Gregory would be top of my list. She produces beautiful florals and landscapes, and has an incredible understanding of colour. Her work is mainly acrylics and oils and I’d love to own a piece one day.
When it comes to my style of interiors I love –
Contemporary, retro and Bohemian styles, obviously not all at once!. I love vibrancy and careful use of pattern to create interiors that are warm and create impact. I’m definitely not one for the minimal look and believe a home should be a cosy, liveable space.
Who is your favourite furniture designer?
Patricia Urquiola has always been an inspiration to me, mainly for her outstanding furniture design and the way she incorporates pattern and textiles in to her work. Some of my favourite chairs ever are the ‘Tropicalia’ and the ‘Antobodi; chair.
What was the last design book you bought?
Design Bloggers at home by Ellie Tennant and the PrintPattern Geometrics book by Marie Perkins which is part of a series of surface pattern books.
Who are your favourite design bloggers?
Victoria Smith who you can find at www.sfgirlbybay.com as her blog really reflects my interior style, and Will Taylor of www.brightbazaarblog.com as his work centers around colour which really sets him apart from other bloggers.
My favourite Natasha Marshall design and colourway –
The ‘Flip’ fabric design in lemon slice is my favourite, the simplicity and colour combination makes it really easy to use within the design schemes.
My mantras in life –
‘Let your smile change the world but don’t let the world change your smile’ and ‘Be careful how you talk to yourself because you are listening’. I also love the words of Coco Chanel who said ‘ If you’re sad add more lipstick and attack’.
Thank you so much to Laura for sharing her thoughts and inspiration.
