Paisley Make showcase of Scottish Designers was a fun event to be part of. We had amazing feedback and exposure to our designs. It was also a great opportunity to meet with other designers and the team at RE:Designed and InCube.
We showed our plectrum, Flip and PomPom designs in the display. Flip firecracker wallpaper, Flip lampshade, Flip cushion on a Hans Wegner Wishbone chair (my favourite chair) and Plectrum fabric for curtains or blinds.
Paisley Make: The Paisley Abbey was an inspiring place to hold the event full of wonderful patterns and history. Loved the knitted Paisley Patterned columns by Tout Petit as you entered the Abbey. She is a InCube incubator business, a great organisation in Paisley run by the Renfrew Council helping young designers go to market. We popped into their shop in town as well to see further work by the designers they support at the early stage of their business.
The Paisley Make event was all part of Paisley’s bid for City Of Culture 2021. It celebrated Paisley’s remarkable pattern collection, assets and abbey, rekindling a community to inspire new ideas, skills, craftsmanship and to celebrate entrepreneurship. The showcase element that we were involved in was curated by RE:Designed showing Scottish fashion, accessories and interior makers. They then also had many workshops and talks over the 4 days including corsage making, embroidery, origami workshops right through to talks by Harris Tweed, Scottish Leather Group and M&Co. As well as showing the Paisley archive and the weaving of Paisley patterns.
