The skill of interior designers creating the best hotel interiors in the World – beautiful havens to wow and seduce you through to the stunning bars and restaurants – it is so exciting to see the best of the best being created around the world.
I really enjoyed the Interior Suppliers event last week organised by the Textiles Scotland and STLA in Edinburgh. The talks were by Karen from Stickman and Ben from Benjamin West who are both based out in Asia. It was great as it opened up all my memories of hotel projects we have worked on over the years working with brands including Malmaison, Rocco Forte, Marriott, Hilton, Principle Hayley Hotels, The Town House Group, Auchrannie Hotels, Apex Hotels and Montpeliers.
The two guest speakers, Karen owner of Stickman and Benjamin from Benjamin West live and work on hotel and restaurant projects in Asia. They talked about the market and projects they are working on which were incredible to see and very inspiring architecturally, interior wise and scale, with many hotels being 600-2000 rooms / or using their terminology keys! If you visit their websites you can see some of the images they showed us to get a feel for the scale of hotels they are working on.
They also had a fascinating week visiting different mills and designers based in Scotland and were so impressed with the craftsmanship side of Scottish Textiles. It does make a huge difference when customers see how many processes are involved in producing every meter of fabric and get to see behind the scenes of the design studios.
Natasha Marshall contract fabric history….
In the early years of our company we worked on many hotel, bar, nightclub & restaurant projects from 1997 – 2009. We then started creating fabrics and wallpapers for clients collections that have also been used all over the world. Since launching our own studio collections last year though we look forward to working on fabrics and wallcoverings for clients using our own designs directly again as we have a wealth of knowledge and experience of this sector and love seeing contract interiors be created using our designs. It is the best feeling ever walking into a beautiful hotel or restaurant where they have used our fabrics and wallpapers.
This then started me looking out some photos of projects we have done over the years and I wanted to share these with you. Due to the simplicity of much of our work for this sector it isn’t always the photographed section of the room but our subtle pattern and textures really enhance the interior space – from the thousands of metres of beautiful geometric white Devore sheers we supplied for all the bedrooms in the Rocco Forte hotel in Manchester The Lowry when it was first built, plain textured fabric-backed vinyl wallcoverings we supplied for so many years for Marriott’s hotel corridors, through to checks and stripes for the shower curtains in all the original Malamison hotels.
The Malmaison checks and the red panelled wall in Groucho St Jude’s were actually the last orders we hand-printed in our original studio back in 1999! Jobs I could find photos of are included below which include Neil and I printing the Groucho wall and I will keep looking.
We so enjoying working with suppliers all over the world when it comes to contract interiors – it is vital that we create fabrics and wallcoverings that pass all the required fire requirements, martindale often over 50,000, price points and cleaning requirements.
As we have worked with mills all over the world for the past 19 years for our clients there is not a fabric or wallcovering that we can’t develop for you which is very exciting when you start to look at the requirements in these new markets. Whether it be a Trevira CS fabric that looks and feels like a cotton, outside fabrics that look like high-end domestic cloths through to washable white subtle patterned sheers the list and opportunities of what we can create are endless.
So if you are looking for a bespoke wallpaper or fabric to start your scheme or to create the finishing wow factor do get in touch so we can help you create what you are looking for. We just need to have a brief that includes your technical specification and budget so we can choose the right mill to develop it with.
It it is a wonderful privilege to be involved in creating the best hotel interiors in the World and we look forward to many more years of involvement ahead through both our own studio collections and the ghost designed ranges we create.
Anyway hope you all have a wonderful week ahead and welcome to our new website!……There are a few more weeks of tweaks and then we will be there so if you have any comments please do send them through.
